TV seasons are a-changing. If you don’t believe us, just look at how long it takes us to preview the vast variety of new shows hitting the schedule in the next month or so. We discuss what we’re looking forward to the most like Kings, Cupid, Better Off Ted, Castle, and more. Plus we talk about the fate of The Middleman, the lineup for PaleyFest09, and Kristen Bell popping up on the new show Party Down. Then we wrap up with chat about the most recent episodes of The Amazing Race, The L Word, Chuck, Life, Lost, Bones, and Psych.
Next week we’ll be discussing Sci-Fi shows and whether we’ll be seeing an increase in that genre in the future. If you’d like to chime in on that discussion or have questions for us, give our listener line a call at 213-985-3176, leave a comment below, or email us.

The fine folks over at USA Network have allowed me to view tonight’s all new PSYCH season finale, and I’m so glad they did. With Fridays being as busy as they are, there are times when I have to put off watching USA until Saturday morning because the weight of the dramas make me more tired than I thought! But tonight’s finale, co-written by one of my favorite people on the planet, James Roday, is really great, and should be on your must watch list.
USA’s official description is as follows:
Psych’s season three finale is “An Evening With Mr. Yang.” After eluding capture and disappearing years ago, the famed Yin Yang serial killer is back, and he’s set his sights on Shawn (James Roday). Yin Yang was active when Henry (Corbin Bernsen) was a cop but now he wants to toy with the department again and specifically Shawn. He sends one of his famous riddles and Shawn has just an hour and ten minutes to solve it and save his latest victim. Shawn figures out the riddle plus two more until he quits the case. Or does he? In a game of cat and mouse, Shawn and Gus (Dulé Hill), plus Shawn’s mom (Cybill Shepherd), his old girlfriend Abigal (Rachel Leigh Cook) plus dad, Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) and Juliet (Maggie Lawson), are all caught up in the hunt until they corner the Yin Yang killer and reveal Mr. Yang for who the killer truly is: A surprise guest star.
Follow the jump for minor-spoilerific reactions to what you’ll see tonight! Read the rest of this entry »

We’re back and the news of Rob Thomas pitching the Veronica Mars movie has us wondering what makes a good movie based on TV shows. We give our thoughts on likeliness of Veronica Mars getting made as well as discuss other recent TV shows made into movies like Sex & The City and Miami Vice and many more. But first we talk a bit about some of the news from the past week including shows that have gotten season pick ups and casting changes (and rumors) at Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. We wrap up the podcast with talk of the most recent episodes of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, The Big Bang Theory, The Closer, Fringe, Lost, The Office, 30 Rock, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Dollhouse.
Next we’ll return with our preview of Spring TV. If you’ve got thoughts about the shows coming next month or want to talk about TV-based movies, give our listener line a call at 213-985-3176, leave a comment below, or email us.

My wonderful friends over at Showtime passed along the smoking hot new poster for Season 3 of THE TUDORS. Lots of great stuff happening in season 3, including the next two of Henry’s 8 wives – Jane Seymour (Anita Briem) and Anne of Cleves (Joss Stone). I cannot wait for the new season, which airs in April. Click here for a new trailer for the season!

I did not see this coming, I have to be honest. Big names like Judy Davis and Debra Messing should have been enough to keep this show going, but apparently it wasn’t! According to EW’s Michael Ausiello, “USA called Starter Wife a ‘critical and creative success,’ and added that the Dec. 12 season finale served as a ’satisfying conclusion’ to the franchise.
Check out his whole story for reasons behind the cancellation (it was you, nonviewers)!

Tonight’s TV schedule is all kinds of crazy, and I’m making it my mission to watch as much as possible and still get to bed in time to get up early and go to the gym by 6AM tomorrow.
In the 8 o’clock hour…..
You guys. Confession time. I’m still watching UGLY BETTY. It was once one of my favorite shows on TV (couldn’t miss season 1) and now, I’m almost in pain to get through it. I love Michael Urie and Becky Newton. I would watch a spinoff starring Marc and Amanda. And if Hilda (Ana Ortiz) stopped by once in a while, I’d be happy. But I really don’t like anything else. After years of working at a fashion magazine, Betty still doesn’t realize that she looks RIDICULOUS? I mean, get rid of the glasses or the braces or something. It’s just dumb. In tonight’s all new episode, Daniel wants to give Claire a great birthday party, but things, naturally, go awry when Betty gets involved. Elsewhere, Daniel is jealous of Conner and lets it affect him and Molly, while Wilhelmina does her best to grapple with her true feelings for Conner. Also, Ignacio has a (not-so) shocking secret he’s keeping from the fam!
On the other side of the fence, we have the season premiere of SURVIVOR: TOCANTINS on CBS and I cannot wait!! You know I love SWV, right? Have I mentioned that? Well, Taj Johnson-George, former member of the group, is who I’m rooting for this season. This season is all about the blindside, according to host Jeff Probst. And look for a “first-impression” vote to throw a wrench into the usual opening acts. Season 17 really has me on a positive SURVIVOR kick, so I can’t wait to see Season 18 play out!
Also on in the hour, NBC’s losing steam MY NAME IS EARL and the dreadful KATH AND KIM. SMALLVILLE is in repeats and BONES is offair (again) for the NAACP Image awards. Read the rest of this entry »

Amy Poehler’s non-OFFICE-spinoff on NBC just cast another comic gem (alongside the already perfectly cast Aziz Ansari and Rashida Jones) – sounds like mytakeontv favorite Chris Pratt (he of Bright Abbott of EVERWOOD fame) is joining the cast of PARKS AND RECREATION! He’ll play Rashida’s unemployed musician boyfriend. Check out the details from Ausiello here.

Lots of fun today in the city – had a chance to chat with the cast of Fringe (minus Anna Torv – no idea where she ended up). They are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Stay tuned for transcripts of those meetups (aiming to do that on the train home)! I also had the chance to sit in a panel with Josh Schwartz, Chris Fedak, and Yvonne Strahovski – also incredible people. Funny, charming you name it – write ups coming soon!

It’s a super-sized episode in which some of the latest TV news including some of the new pilots picked up in the past few weeks, Jane Espenson running Caprica, Chuck ending in April, Michelle Ryan as the new companion on Dr. Who, and ABC trying out a couple of their comedies on Thursday nights. Plus, Rae takes a moment to say a word about the passing of Kim Manners. Then we (Rae) kvetch about how hype builds up expectations and influences our opinion of an episode, using the latest episode of Lost as an example. And, as usual, we chat about primetime including the latest episodes of Battlestar Galactica, Psych, The Closer, Trust Me, Fringe, Lost, and Burn Notice.
We’re taking the next week off but we’ll be back the following week with an all new episode. If you’ve got a topic idea for us or want to call in about something from this episode, give our listener line a call at 213-985-3176, leave a comment below, or email us.
