The young man who once gave a voice to everyone’s favorite clown fish is coming into his own playing youngest son Shane Botwin on Showtime’s WEEDS! Alexander Gould started playing Shane as a shy, naïve mother-worshipping son; this season, he’s lost his innocence. Taking on the rebellious son role, it’s been a treat seeing his coming of age. Coming off of a really strong episode last week, and looking towards the end of the season, I chatted with Alexander about what’s to come!
I was talking with somebody about talking with you today and it came up that Shane has seemingly lost his innocence this season, and I was interested to hear if that’s difficult to play? This change from old Shane to new Shane?
Yeah, it was. It was fun though. It was an interesting change. He’s always been this young character who was the moral center of the family, and he’s lost that now. It was kind of hard to portray, at the same time it was fun.
It’s almost as if Silas and Shane have switched roles.
What can you tease for us about what is coming up for the show?
I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to reveal! It’s gonna be some really crazy stuff. Really interesting heavy storylines with my character. It’s really fun. I have a feeling that you’re going to have to wait and see.
I also love the relationship that you have with Allie’s character [Isabelle]! Will we see her pop up here and there?
Oh yeah, we’ll see her. Allie is great.
Why do you think people should tune in now?
I think one, it has a following form past seasons, and when I tell people why they should watch – it’s a really great show. High action, really great acting. Mary Louise Parker and Justin Kirk are amazing actors. You really get involved in these characters lives, it’s addictive. You can’t stop watching it!
What big guest stars do you have coming up?
[Starting last week], Alanis Morrissette is there and that’s been great.
I love the chemistry that even the guest stars have with the main cast – is it a fun set to go to work on?
Oh definitely. That chemistry that you see, it’s there with everyone on set. It’s fun to be there, it’s fun to work on.
Do you get a chance to watch a lot of TV in your downtime?
I like mainly comedies. Sitcoms. TWO AND HALF MEN, FAMILY GUY are the ones I like.
What else is coming up for you?
I have a few different things in the works. I can’t really reveal anything right now. It’s all in the planning stages.
You’re a man of mystery today!
