Happy 14th – today is Brains‘ birthday! What’s new / what’s worth watching to celebrate?

The 8:00 Hour –

ABC has an all new holiday special with JENNIFER HUDSON: I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS.  The Oscar winner sings some Christmas classics, and does some duets with the adorable Michael Bublé.  Over on CBS, the whole night is all new – on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, the gang tries to quit their previously unmentioned smoking habit; on ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE, Billie’s parents come over for Christmas, and Billie and Zack try to keep them from finding out that he lives there.

FOX has a rerun of HOUSE – the Christmas episode where Cuddy gets her baby girl!  NBC throws their hat in the singing competition ring with the acapella group show THE SING OFF.  Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman, and Nicole Scherzinger are the judges.  The five day marathon of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES starts tonight – check out the Pilot either again or for the first time.

The 9:00 Hour –

On ABC, you’ll find another episode of FIND MY FAMILY.  CBS has new episodes of TWO AND A HALF MEN and THE BIG BANG THEORY.  On 2.5, Charlie teaches Jake the tricks of infidelity – always a good plan.  Over on TBBT, Leonard’s mother, played by Christine Baranski, stops in for a visit with a happy Sheldon.

NBC continues with THE SING OFF through the hour.  Don’t miss the Fall Finale of LIE TO ME – The Lightman Group deals with a disgruntled farmer, and Loker keeps an eye on a stranded class of school kids stuck at the office!  Check out the second episode of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, which finds Elena and Damon meeting for the first time.  Another great episode of THE CLOSER airs on TNT – Provenza’s ex partner, played by Beau Bridges, comes out of retirement to help investigate an old case that has come up again.

The 10:00 Hour –

CASTLE is a rerun on ABC – it’s the episode where the lead singer of Alexis’ favorite band is found murdered and the lyrics of her latest song help solve the case.  CSI: MIAMI is brand new as Alex Rodriguez returns to play Delko – this time an expert witness for the defense, pitting him against his old team mates.

Over on NBC, Leno is all new.  Another all new episode of MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE airs on TNT – Joe contemplates moving out of the hotel he’s been living in since splitting with his wife (Penelope Ann Miller);  Owen deals with his jerky dad who gives him a crappy car to drive around in; and Terry deals with the guy who almost hits him while driving recklessly through town.

Even with plenty of shows in reruns or off-air for the night, there’s still a lot of great stuff to check out tonight

The 8:00 Hour –

ABC has an encore presentation of SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN’ TO TOWN.  Over on CBS, both HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE are new – on HIMYM, Joanna Garcia guest stars as the perfect girl, and the gang helps Ted find a way to date her while Marshall finds a letter from his youth, which has a dramatic effect on him; on AOP, Billie and Zack take separate birthing classes, and realize how little they know.

FOX has Carrie Underwood’s Holiday special for 2 hours featuring a wide variety of guests like Christina Applegate, Kristin Chenoweth, David Cook, Brad Paisley, and Dolly Parton.  Meanwhile, NBC has a rerun of LAW AND ORDER: SVU, and an all new episode of ONE TREE HILL, where Nathan and Haley prepare to move, airs over on The CW.

The 9:00 Hour –

On ABC, you’ll find another episode of FIND MY FAMILY.  CBS has new episodes of TWO AND A HALF MEN and THE BIG BANG THEORY.  On 2.5, Charlie finds out a secret about Chelsea, whatever that means, while on TBBT, Sheldon tries to teach Penny some physics and Wolowitz gets jealous of Leonard’s interaction with his girlfriend.

Another SVU rerun on NBC, and an all new GOSSIP GIRL airs on The CW, where someone gets into a pretty horrible accident.  My favorite thing about tonight is the return of new episodes of THE CLOSER. The team deals with the death of a 12-year-old boy, while Brenda and Provenza deal with their respective relationship issues!

The 10:00 Hour –

CASTLE is all new on ABC, as Castle and Beckett deal with an amnesiac who is their only lead into the case of an art dealer’s murder.  CSI: MIAMI is brand new too, with Eddie Cibrian’s new character possibly posing a threat to his new team.

Over on NBC, Leno is all new. The second season finale of RITA ROCKS airs on Lifetime, as the band gets their first paying gig, and 9-months-pregnant Rita is determined to perform no matter what the new baby has to say about it!  Check out TNT’s latest show, MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE, as well!

MondayI am a huge fan of schedules and color coding and highlighting and planning, and I love everything about planning the new fall season, DVR recording wise (when it comes down to actually watching the shows, that’s where I struggle).  Throughout the week, I will breakdown what I’m watching day by day (cue “Godspell”).  Don’t worry – as we get closer to each premiere, I’ll give a little insight into what I liked, what I disliked, and why you should or shouldn’t tune in! Follow the jump for the details on what I’m watching, what I’m not, and what I wish would just be canceled already! (more…)

What’s On Monday 9/22?

Happy Autumn, TV fans!  Tonight is ridiculous with the premieres, and the new episodes of shows that premiered earlier.  I have so many DVRs set tonight that it’s pure insanity!  ABC is billing this week “National Stay at Home Week” and I can see why.  We’re at the heart of TV viewing this week with just about everything airing in the next seven days!

On ABC:  DANCING WITH THE STARS’ 2 hour premiere is tonight at 8.  I haven’t seen anyone dance, but my front runners are totally Misty May and Lance Bass (because he’s dancing with Lacey).  DWTS is followed by a really strong final season premiere for BOSTON LEGAL.

On CBS:  A big night of premieres over on the eye network.  Starting at 8, the boys and Penny are back with a very solid episode of THE BIG BANG THEORYHOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is back with a laugh out loud kind of episode at 8:30.  I don’t watch it, but maybe some of you are interested to hear that TWO AND A HALF MEN is back tonight at 9.  If I were you, I’d skip WORST WEEK at 9:30, but curiosity might get the better of you!  CSI: MIAMI rounds out the all new night with an intricate “whodunnit” at 10!

On NBC:  It’s all HEROES, all the time tonight on NBC! Just Jody from Canada says that the first hour of the three hour event (airing at 8PM) is just one giant ad for the show, and isn’t worth watching.  I’ve seen the first hour of the brand new 2-hour premiere, and I’m back on the HEROES bandwagon so far.  I’ll wait until the second hour to judge!

On The CW:  Jusy Jody also says that tonight’s all new GOSSIP GIRL (waves to Canadians who get to see US shows early) is a bit of a game changer.  Oh, and Kelly Rutherford is finally back in tonight’s ‘sode!  Check it out at 8 and see what you think!  ONE TREE HILL is still dealing with the loss of Q, and it sounds like Haley is starting to finally wonder where on earth Dan has been!

On FOX: It’s TV with Dad night for me as I head to his house to watch TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES and PRISON BREAK.  On T:TSCC, Sonya Walger (LOST’s Penny) is back as Charley’s wife and she’s in a pickle!  On PB, they do more stuff with the cards, and I hear someone’s getting a little tortured…

On TNT: An all new episode of RAISING THE BAR – this is the first episode of the show that I haven’t had the chance to view previously, so I’m definitely setting the DVR to see what happens!

On MTV: THE HILLS is all new tonight too, which begs the question – why do we still care about the LC / Heidi non-relationship?  Hasn’t it been 2 years or something?

What are you all watching tonight?

Yesterday, the Fall TV season started, and I was not prepared at all.  It just didn’t seem right that new shows are up and running, when I have had barely any time to recover from all of the summer TV!

Since I was out of commission yesterday with family picnics, I want to cover Monday and Tuesday in one fell swoop.  Here’s what’s on my schedule for this new season.

Mondays are a crazy night for me – it’s “TV night with Dad” at my parents’ house, so I trek over there to watch PRISON BREAK and SARAH CONNOR live.  Depending on my mood and my Fantasy Teevee schedule, I watch CBS’ first hour or NBC’s first hour.  Everything else gets put on the DVR for later or skipped all together.  I’m sorry to the TWO AND A HALF MEN, BOSTON LEGAL, and CSI: MIAMI fans.  I just can’t do it – can’t watch them!  And WORST WEEK was my least favorite pilot.  I can’t put my finger on it, just something off…

Follow the jump for TUESDAYS!

Monday Night TV

There is so much on TV tonight it’s insanity.  When did Mondays become the busy night of my week?  Time to check out what’s on tonight and what is worth watching –

On the Big 5 Networks:

ABC:  There’s a new episode of HSM: GET IN THE PICTURE at 8, followed by 2 reruns of SAMANTHA WHO? at 9.  The real finale of THE MOLE airs tonight at 10.  I’m not sure anymore who I think the mole is because every single week, my pick has been eliminated…

CBS:  Reruns of their comedy lineup (one of my favorite BIG BANG THEORY episodes where Penny can’t sing and Sheldon invents his cousin), plus a rerun of CSI: MIAMI.

NBC:  It’s all about the OLYMPICS!  Tonight, Michael Phelps swims for his third gold medal, plus Natalie Coughlin and Aaron Peirsol swim to defend their titles.  We’ll get to see the men’s gymnastics finals (not live), as well as beach volleyball and men’s synchro diving (which is just the coolest thing EVER).

CW:  Reruns of GOSSIP GIRL (the one where Jenny doesn’t believe Asher is gay) and ONE TREE HILL (where Lucas broods, Haley bitches, and Jamie is the cutest thing EVER).

FOX:  Reruns of PRISON BREAK (Season 3 on DVD tomorrow) and TERMINATOR: TSCC.

On the basic cable channels:

TNT:  Up first, we have a new episode of THE CLOSER.  It focuses on Flynn and Provenza and the hot water they get into when they have to cut loose a suspect (guest star Jennifer Coolidge) because they lose important evidence.  SAVING GRACE is on at 9 and it sounds like there is a lot going on, the least of which is 1000s of dollars found in Grace’s car, and Ham’s brother going missing in Afghanistan!

ABC Family:  ABC Family tries to capture the ratings from BRING IT ON AGAIN (really) by airing it as a lead in for an all new THE MIDDLEMAN with guest star Kevin Sorbo.  He stars as a Middleman from 1969 who gets unfrozen to help solve a problem that Dub Dub and Sexy Boss Man face.  Should be awesome!  Tell 100,000 of your friends to watch it!

MTV:  Check out their latest made-for-tv movie THE AMERICAN MALL airing at 9.  Then be sure to pick up the soundtrack tomorrow!

TLC:  I love JON & KATE PLUS 8!  The kids are so adorable and I think Jon and Kate are hilarious.  Tonight, they take the kids down South for a beach trip.  The long car ride, and a fear of heights cause some headaches for the parents!

On the premium cable channels:

SHOWTIME:  A new episode of WEEDS gets even crazier as Nancy finds out about Silas’ cougar and Shane’s weird fantasies.  Also, Andy and Doug have a little meet up with El Coyote while smuggling illegals  into the country.  They’re also showing the pilot episode of CALIFORNICATION, getting ready for season 2 to premiere in a few weeks.

HBO2:  If you missed it last night (like me), there’s another new part of GENERATION KILL airing tonight.  This miniseries is insane – I love it!

What are you all watching tonight?  Still catching up on last week’s TV, let alone trying to watch tonight’s TV, like me?
