So you guys know that I love THE CLOSER, right? That it’s the highlight of my week when it’s on, and that I think it’s funny and dramatic – a show that totally makes me laugh out loud and cry my eyes out? Tonight’s all new episode, “Dead Man’s Hand”, Mary McDonnell is back as Captain Raydor, and this time she’s back under very different yet familiar circumstances. The episode is done so darn well, and the chemistry between Raydor and Brenda is genius.
In celebration of tonight’s episode, I had the chance to speak with the creator and executive producer James A Duff. We talked about what’s coming up, how he plans out these mini seasons, and what to expect tonight!
Hi James how are you?
Fine…How are you?
I’m doing really well. I am loving this season of the Closer. This “mini” season that we are getting.
Oh thank you…
How do you write, knowing that you are only going to have this three episode bridge between seasons or is it something that you just kinda of have to hope it happens or do you plan for it? How does it work?
No, we knew. They tell us how many episodes the island (we call it the island) in the room and we know how many episodes the island is going to be and we know pretty much what we are going to use it for. We tend to use it to do…you know things that we would not do in the summer. (more…)

These What’s On? posts have been few and far between lately, but there’s a lot to celebrate with the premiere of four new shows and a great new episode of GREEK! Let’s get right to it, shall we?
At 8 tonight….
GREEK (ABC Family) is all new tonight with a Homecoming Float disaster, Cappie and Casey doing their best to avoid one another, and a little secret about Fisher that Ashleigh uncovers! The episode is called Tailgate Expectations, and the fabulous Tim Matheson directed it! Stay tuned later this afternoon for an interview from the set that I did with Dilshad Vadsaria (Rebecca Logan!) and don’t forget that next week is GREEK’s Season 2 finale!
Also new at 8: THE BACHELORETTE, I’M A CELEBRITY…
At 9 tonight….
THE CLOSER (TNT) is back for an all new season, and it’s as good as it ever was, maybe better. Kyra Sedgwick is fantastic as Brenda Leigh Johnson, and the first case of the season is a doozy. A family is gunned down inside their home, and the team is on the case, as Guillermo from WEEDS (the patriarch of the dead family) is in automatically suspected in the case that has lots of twists and turns! Provenza is hilarious in this episode that had me alternately thinking “who would date him” and “is he going senile?” Interesting tidbit – Kyra Sedgwick gets a star on the Walk of Fame tonight! Kudos!
Also new at 9: JON AND KATE PLUS 8 (MINUS EACH OTHER) airs their 100th episode with “special guest” Emeril Lagasse. (more…)

I woke up a half hour early this morning, basically throwing off my whole schedule. The good news is that I was able to watch THE CLOSER’s summer finale before heading into the office. I think it was one of the funniest episodes I’ve seen in a while, but at the same time, it was action packed, scary, and made me a blubbering crying idiot by the last five minutes.
[SPOILER ALERT – don’t click for more if you haven’t watched yet]

Remind me never to go away for two weeks and leave my poor little TiVo to do all the work for me! I am sad to say that I am still not caught up on the TV I missed while I was gallivanting in San Diego and dogsitting for friends in the woods of Southest PA!
Here is what I’m catching up on this weekend:
I love THE CLOSER on TNT. It’s one of the smartest dramas I’ve ever seen. Kyra Sedgwick is fantastic and the rest of the team all bring so much to the table. I love Flynn and Provenza. I am so far behind on what could have possibly happened between Daniels and Gabriel. I love the idea that Brenda and Fritz had a huge blow up fight (I know this thanks to previews). But I have quite a few episodes that I need to sit down and take care of or my TiVo is going to stop recording!
I am also a huge fan of SAVING GRACE. I didn’t watch the first season, but I tuned into the season premiere and LOVED it. But that’s the only episode I’ve been able to watch this season! What is up with Ham and Grace? Has Earl come back and forgiven Grace for whatever happened with Father Satan? How did Grace’s nephew handle being a junior explorer or whatever? There are so many questions and I just can’t answer them yet!
The team from Sterling Cooper probably misses me! I was able to watch the first episode of MAD MEN’s Season 2, but haven’t caught last week’s second episode. I am so intrigued by everything show has to offer. The attitudes, the interactions, the blatant sexism. It’s fascinating. And Jon Hamm is like #4 on my “leave your significant other and marry me” list. I love being taken away into a whole other world for an hour, and this show does that!
